Copies of 2012 Vandalois have arrived

The Vandalia Community High School Vandalois staff has announced that the 2012 yearbooks have arrived and will be handed out between 11-15 a.m. and 12:45 next Tuesday (Sept. 4) through Thursday in the VCHS cafeteria.
They may also be picked up by calling the VCHS office, 283-5155, or by e-mailing adviser Amy Vieregge at avieregge@vandals.k.12.il.us.

 

Special museum exhibits, performances

The special exhibits for September in the Fayette County Museum are: Mary Todd Lincoln, A Pioneer Woman’s Day and Civil War Letters from the collection donated by the Luster Family.
The fourth annual Season of Entertainment Events sponsored by the Fayette County Museum will begin on Sunday, Sept. 16, with Martha Washington.
Educator and historical presenter Barbara Kay of Glen Carbon will inform and entertain with events in the life of President George Washington’s wife, Martha.
Kay will appear in character as she relates interesting facts about life in the 1700s in the young country of the United States.
Other events will be “Historical Family Stories” on Nov. 4 by Linda Dust, a member of the Champaign-Urbana Storytellers Guild.
On Jan. 13, fiddle music by Dennis A. Stroughmatt, a national authority on French Creole Traditional Music, will be the entertainment.
The events will be held at 2 p.m. in the Vandalia First United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Refreshments will follow.
Season tickets are $30. Single event tickets are $13 in advance or $15 at the door. Youth tickets (ages 7-18) are half price.
A rummage and bake sale will be held in the museum yard from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 29.
Proceeds from these events go toward the upstairs building restoration of the Fayette County Museum.

Tools for School serves 600-plus

The Tools for School program at First Presbyterian Church in Vandalia provided free school supplies for more than 600 Fayette County in-need students.
More than 60 volunteers from the church and community participated in this fall’s program, picking up, setting up and distributing TFS supplies.

New hours for Lighthouse Center

The Lighthouse Pregnancy Center, located at 1121 N. Sixth St. in Vandalia, has announced new hours: 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Wednesday; and noon-6 p.m. on Thursdays.
