Man dies from gunshot wound

A rural Ramsey man died on Monday from a single gunshot wound, according to Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen.
Bowen pronounced the man, 62-year-old Kenneth Evans, dead at the scene, and said that the gunshot wound was apparently self-inflicted.
Bowen is continuing to investigate the death.

Band Boosters accept items for sale

The Vandalia Band Boosters are asking for items to be donated for a rummage sale it will hold on Saturday, April 20, at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
Items can be dropped off at the Moose Lodge from noon-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 18, or from noon-5 p.m. on Friday, April 19.
The band is facing large budget cuts, and all proceeds from the sale will benefit the band. For more information, or for help with large items, contact Champion Trophies & T's at 283-7062 or NAPA Auto Parts at 283-3053.
The rummage sale will be held from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on April 20.

Evans Library offering 'Bee a Reader'

Evans Public Library in Vandalia is offering a Wee Read program called "Bee a Reader."
Through this program, which is open to children age 3 through kindergarten-age, children will receive a reading reward for every four books read, up to 16 books.
The program will continue through May 18.

Merchants' rummage sales are Saturday

The Downtown Merchants Co-op rummage sales are this Saturday, 8 a.m.-noon.
Table spaces are available for $10 per space. To rent a table space, call Something Special Florist, 283-1810, or Sew Liberty, 283-7249.

Relay for Life vendors sought
Organizers of Fayette County Relay for Life are looking for vendors and businesses to set up booths for this year's relay, which will be held from noon-midnight on June 1 at the top of the Lincoln Loop Walking Trail in Rogier Park
