Carlyle Lake area tour is this Sunday
The Illinois Department of Natural Resources, in conjunction with the Carlyle Lake Waterfowlers Association Inc., will be conducting a site tour of the Carlyle Lake State Fish and Wildlife Area this Sunday
The guided tour, by personal vehicle, will give interested parties a chance to view Sub-impoundments 1 and 2 prior to the upcoming waterfowl season, which begins on Nov. 10.
In addition to seeing available duck habitat and water levels, attendees will also have a chance to see projects undertaken by the Carlyle Lake Waterfowlers this summer to improve the area.
Site staff will be present to conduct the tour, answer questions and explain site regulations.
Those wishing to take the tour are asked to meet at Parking Lot No. 1, located south of the site office, at 1 p.m. Anyone wanting more information about the tour or the site should contact Bob Hammel, site superintendent, at 425-3533.
Farm Bureau will offer driving course
Fayette County Farm Bureau will offer the AARP defensive driving class Nov. 13-14 in the basement of the Farm Bureau building at 1125 N Sunset Drive in Vandalia.
The classes run from 8 a.m-noon on both days, and attendance for both days is required.
This course is the largest refresher course for drivers age 50 and over.
The course is designed to help individuals update their driving knowledge by reviewing the rules of the road and discussing normal age-related physical changes that may require you to adjust your driving practices.
Topics covered include road signs, proper following distance, changing lanes, merging with traffic and effects of medication on driving.
Many insurance companies offer a discount to their customers that complete a defensive driving course. To register, call 283-3276.
