History book brochures going out

The Fayette County Genealogical and Historical Society has been notified that brochures about its new book, Fayette County Illinois History & Families, will be delivered to area post offices on Friday for distribution to all residents of Fayette county.
The brochure will include examples of family histories and directions for mailing or dropping off materials and ordering books.

Band Boosters sells Cardinals tickets

The Vandalia Band Boosters are now selling tickets for the St. Louis Cardinals game against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, June 2.
The boosters are selling $48 infield pavilion tickets for $35.
The Vandalia Community High School and eighth-grade bands will be performing prior to the 1:15 p.m., and the band members will receive special recognition during the game.
Tickets may be purchased at NAPA Auto Parts, and they will be available at the junior high band concert on Thursday.

SWCD has food plot seed

The Fayette County Soil and Water Conservation District now has free food plot seed.
The seed, which has been donated by the Quail and Upland Game Alliance, is available at the SWCD office, 301 S. Third St., Vandalia.

Meals on Wheels fundraiser set

A fundraiser dinner for Meals on Wheels (Golden Circle Nutrition Center) will be held from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, at the center, 616 W. Jackson St., Vandalia.
The menu will include ham, fried chicken, beef and noodles, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, gourmet carrots, slaw, dessert and drinks.
The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for ages 5-12, with children under 5 served free of charge.
Call 283-1040 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. to make reservations; reservations must be made by May 16.

David Cearlock benefit is May 19

A benefit to help pay medical and funeral expenses for David Cearlock will be held on Sunday, May 19, at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
The benefit will include dinner from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., with the menu including pulled pork from The Hitchin' Post, cole slaw, baked beans and chips. The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children ages 3-10.
It will also include a silent auction, gun raffle, 50/50 drawing, ticket raffles and a Coach purse raffle.
David Cearlock recently died from pancreatic cancer.

Ensemble to be at First Baptist

The University of Texas-Pan American Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Vandalia.

Mobile Food Pantry in St. Elmo

The Fayette County Mobile Food Pantry will be in the parking lot of Pinnacle Foods in St. Elmo on Saturday, May 18.
The food distribution will begin at 10 a.m., rain or shine, and food will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.
Those going to the food distribution should take bags, baskets or boxes for the food they receive.

Team Mindy Benefit is Saturday

A Team Mindy benefit for Mindy Miller will be held on Saturday, May 11, at the Vandalia Moose Lodge.
Doors will open at 7 p.m., with the admission cost being $10 per person and $25 per family.
The benefit will include a nacho bar, various auctions, raffles and door prizes.

'Stamp Out Hunger' is Saturday

The National Association of Letter Carriers and the Campbell Soup Co. will hold the 21st annual "Stamp Out Hunger" on Saturday, May 11.
Residents of Vandalia and Brownstown are asked to leave sturdy bags containing non-perishable food items next to their mailboxes on May 11.
Vandalia's letter and rural carriers will pick up those donations, which will be given to local food pantries.
