Merchants Co-op plan weekend event

The Downtown Vandalia Merchants Co-op will sponsor a two-day shopping event this weekend, with specials in participating stores and a live reindeer Friday evening.
The promotion, called Winter Wonderland, will be held as a part of the Olde Tyme Christmas event in Vandalia. Winter Wonderland runs from 5-9 p.m. on Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
For $6, people will be able to have their pictures taken in a sleigh being pulled by a live reindeer. Pictures will be taken on Friday from 5-9 p.m. only.

Rotary Christmas Parade set for Dec. 4

Santa will make his first visit of the season to the Vandalia area when he rides his sleigh into town in the Rotary Christmas Parade on Saturday, Dec. 4.
The parade, which begins at the Fayette County Courthouse parking lot at 10 a.m., runs east on Gallatin Street to Fourth Street, where it turns south and ends in the First National Bank employee parking lot. Santa will break off from the rest of the parade at Fourth Street and go to Lincoln Park, where he will talk with children in the gazebo from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Organizations and individuals are invited to participate in the parade. Those participants should arrive at the courthouse parking lot by 9:30 a.m. For more information, call Ernie Chappel at 283-1141 or Dave Bell at 283-3374.
