VCHS Alumni to hold fish fry on May 16

The Vandalia Alumni and Friends will hold a fish fry from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, May 16, at the Vandalia Junior High School cafeteria.
Catered by Country Rhodes in Effingham, the buffet meal will include fried walleye, popcorn shrimp, chicken strips, potato salad, cole slaw, applesauce, baked beans, steak fries, hush puppies, drinks and dessert.
The cost is $9 for adults, and $6 for ages 11 and under. Tickets are available at all Vandalia Schools offices, and will be sold at the door. Checks used as payment should be written out to: OCF/VAF Foundation.

Ramsey to celebrate 150th birthday

The village of Ramsey will celebrate its 150th birthday with a celebration on Saturday.
The celebration includes a 10 a.m. parade, with lineup at 9:30 a.m.; a ceremony featuring several speakers; a cake-cutting; kids' games at noon; a husband-calling contest at 12:30 p.m.; music by the Beecher City Kitchen Band from 1-2; pie contest at 1:30 p.m; horseshoes tournament at 2 p.m.; talent show at 2:30 p.m.; and music by Thunder Road from 6-9 p.m.

Concert at fairgrounds this Saturday

Chris Cavanaugh will perform in concert on Saturday, May 3, at the Fayette County Fairgrounds in Brownstown.
Opening for Cavanaugh at the 7 p.m. concert will be Sheena Flowers and Justin Lawder, and Chandler Durbin.
Grandstand tickets are $10, and trackside tickets are $15.
Advance tickets are available at Fayette County Real Estate in Vandalia, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m.-noon on Saturdays.
Tickets may also be purchased at the front gate of the fairgrounds from 7:30-9 p.m. on race nights.

Band Boosters' quarter auction is Friday night

The Vandalia Band Boosters will hold a quarter auction on Friday at the Vandalia Moose Lodge. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the auction starts at 6:30 p.m.
The auction will include more than 25 vendors, and the event also includes a silent auction and 50/50 drawing.
