Tools for School distribution
 
Tools for School, a program that provides free basic supplies to in-need students in Fayette County, pre-K through college.
The program will be in operation at First Presbyterian Church, 1221 W. Fillmore St. in Vandalia, on the following dates and times: Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 9-10, 9 a.m.7 p.m.; Friday, Aug. 11, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m.; and Saturday, 9 a.m.-noon.
Those using the program are to enter the church through the north door, and all students must accompany their parents to select their supplies.
Parents are urged to get a complete list of school supplies needed, as Tools for School provide only basic supplies.

This year's distribution is dedicated to the memory of Joni Koonce Springman because of her dedicated service to the program over the pasts several years.

Free hunter course Aug. 10-11
 
A free hunter safety course for youth will be held at Buck Stop Archery, located south of Brownstown, from 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. next Friday and from 9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. next Saturday.
The preferred minimum age is 10, and the 10-hour class is limited to 55 participants.
Those wishing to have youth attend the course are asked to call Buck Stop by 5 p.m. next Thursday.
Participants should take a sack lunch and a pencil.
