New owners

David and Ruth Stone are the new owners of the Culligan Water Conditioning Service in Vandalia.
For the past 15 years, the Stones have operated a power washer sales company in the Vandalia area, and now they’ll move into another area of the water business.

They purchased the Culligan franchise from Darrel Richards, who had been in business for several years.
“We’ll continue to do everything Darrel did,” said David. “We have all the Culligan products. He did a good job with it, and we hope to grow it even more.”
Though the Stones took over the operation on May 1, they’ve spent the last several weeks getting to know the business inside and out. Richards has agreed to help during the transition, introducing them to customers and training them in the business.
Rounding out the staff is Derek McWhorter, who handles the delivery duties. He formerly worked with Richards, so is familiar with the operation.
Ruth, who serves as the company’s secretary and bookkeeper, said she’s excited about the opportunities with Culligan.
“It’s certainly a different adventure for us, but we’re excited about making it bigger and better,” she said. “The Culligan brand is well-known, and their products are first-rate.”
The store offers water softeners, reverse osmosis systems, water coolers and bottled water. They also sell Culligan salt for the water softeners.
The business will continue to operate out of the same location – 113 W. Gallatin St. – though Stone said that he plans to do some work on the building.
Hours for the business are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday. The telephone number is 283-0630.
