New doctors begin practice in Vandalia

Fayette County Hospital recently has added three new physicians. Following are brief biographies of those doctors.

Murtuza Bahrainwala, M.D. –Known as "Dr. B" by patients and hospital staff, Dr. Bahrainwala is originally from Mangalore, India. He attended medical school in India before attaining his master's degree in public health form the University of Texas. He completed his residency in internal medicine and occupational medicine in a combined program at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Dr. B is married and has four children ranging in age from 2 years to 10 years. He provides internal medicine and occupational medicine at Fayette County Hospital's Wellness Complex.
Bhavesh Patel, M.D. – Dr. Patel received his medical degree in Gujarat, India, before moving to Chicago, where he completed his residency in family medicine. He was the chief resident of his residency at Jackson Park Hospital in Chicago. He provides family medicine services at Fayette County Hospital's Wellness Complex, and works alongside Dr. B and Dr. Skow. Dr. Patel is married, and he and his wife are parents of a 14-month-old daughter.
Li-Hua (Linda) Du, M.D. – Dr. Du received her medical degree in obstetrics and gynecology in Beijing, China, and worked as an OB/GYN physician for 10 years there prior to coming to the United States. She then received her doctorate degree in molecular biology in Little Rock, Ark., before completing a residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern in Austin. She and her husband are parents of a 12-year-old son. Dr. Du has assumed Dr. Brent Schwarm's practice at Confidence Medical Associates.

Fayette County Hospital was the recipient of more than $178,000 as a part of a $5.1-million disbursement of state funds to Southern Illinois hospitals earlier this month.
Gov. Pat Quinn announced the capital construction grants to 26 hospitals. The funds were part of the Illinois Jobs Now! program.
Fayette County Hospital received $178,235 to purchase digital mammography equipment.
