Murder arrest made

A Mulberry Grove man was arrested for murder for his alleged role in the death of a rural Brownstown man last September. Fayette County Sheriff Chris Smith announced just before noon on Wednesday that David Leroy Bright, 68, was jailed on two counts on murder. Bright is being charged with causing the death of James R. “Jim” Skinner in Skinner’s home last September. Bright is expected to go before a judge on the murder charges on Thursday morning. He is being housed in the Fayette County Jail on $1 million bond. Information in the case had not been filed as of press time on Wednesday, and more details were not available at that time. The Illinois State Police Zone 7 investigations and Fayette County state’s attorney assisted the sheriff’s office in making the arrest on Wednesday, Smith said. Smith said that Bright was transferred from the Bond County Jail, where he was being held on $10,000 bond on a charge of violating sex offender registration state law. Skinner was found dead in his residence in rural Brownstown on Sept. 17 of last year. At that time, Bruce Bowen, who was the Fayette County coroner, termed Skinner’s death as suspicious and said he was waiting on lab results to determine the cause of death.
