After his team lost to Sandoval to open the Christ Our Rock Lutheran Tournament last Monday, Mulberry Grove coach Chris Johnson said he believed his team could win its next three games in the tournament.
He was almost right, as the Aces defeated Ramsey and the host, and only losing to Patoka by two points.
In the end, Mulberry Grove finished in second place, and senior Harley Steed had been named to the all-tournament team.
The final game for the Aces – Thursday's contest against Christ Our Rock Lutheran – was an exciting battle, which saw the Aces erase a 16-point deficit in the fourth quarter to beat the Silver Stallions, 68-65.
In the fourth period, Mulberry Grove made 11-of-12 field goals, while holding CORL to just seven points.
Dylan Burmester scored 17 points for the Silver Stallions in the third quarter, but he was held to just two in the final period.
Senior Allen Tompkins recorded a double-double for the Aces, with 26 points and 10 rebounds. Eighteen of his points came in the second half.
Steed played an all-around game for Mulberry Grove, with 11 points, nine rebounds, five steals and four assists.

Last Wednesday, the Aces trailed Patoka throughout the first half, but used an 11-point third quarter to take a two-point lead going into the final period.
Mulberry Grove, however, would struggle shooting, making just 1-of-9 field goals, while allowing 12 points to the Warriors during a 37-35 loss.
Tompkins led the Aces in scoring with 13 points and seven rebounds.

Last Tuesday, the Aces earned their first win of the tournament and third of the season against Ramsey, defeating the Rams, 47-36.
Mulberry Grove used a fast start, which included a 14-of-23 shooting effort (60.9 percent) from two-point range in the first half. Steed led the team with eight first-half points, and Tompkins' 12 points were the team's best for the game.
At halftime, the Aces led, 31-12.
Ramsey's senior leader, Blake Hadley, was held to just 2-of-8 shooting in the first half, and he only had six points in the contest.
