There were 1,264 deer killed in Fayette County during the first season, according to totals released by the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
Seventy-two fewer deer were killed in the county from Nov. 19-21 than were killed during the first season last year.
Statewide, 68,037 deer were killed, an increase of 1,911 from last year.
Pike County, located in west-central Illinois, recorded the highest total for the first season, with 1,957.
The second season is this Thursday through Sunday.
