Authorities now believe that a gunshot that killed a man in Shobonier on Monday was self-inflicted.
A female contacted the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office on Monday afternoon, reported that someone had shot themself at a rural Shobonier residence.
Shortly before 6 p.m., a county deputy found a man identified as Michael Brown, 27, of Henry, dead on the front steps of that residence.
Fayette County Coroner Bruce Bowen, who pronounced Brown dead at 6:18 p.m., reported that the longtime Vandalia area resident had sustained a gunshot wound to the head.
