The last Lenten Luncheon of the season was held at First Baptist Church of Vandalia on  April 20. Mike Lewis of St. James Lutheran Church was the speaker.
The Rev. Robert Weaver, pastor of the host church, extended the welcome and led the blessing for the meal, which was prepared by the ladies of the church and served by the deacons and their wives.
Following the meal, Weaver introduced his wife, Michell Weaver, who sang a song titled “When I Get Too Busy.”
Continuing the series of messages on the "disciplines of the saints" theme, Lewis encouraged those at the luncheon to follow the footsteps of Jesus, not the devil. He said that the Bible will show us how to do this. He also  said that the hearts of the saints are refreshed by fellow believers.
Lewis told a personal story of a friend who began drinking to excess, and went the wrong way. He then met a Christian lady. They began going to church, and the man became a Christian and later a pastor.
He advised that Christians   should look at themselves and their problems. And then trust Jesus to change their hearts.
