ST. ELMO – Perry Manley set everything hit her way and just watched as her hitters did the rest of the work against Mulberry Grove on Tuesday.
And she did some serving, too.
The senior setter picked up 25 assists in the match and 10 service points in the first set of a 25-8, 25-10 victory against the Lady Aces in the Egyptian-Illini Conference Tournament.
“She’s a good athlete,” said coach Elise Asher. “She’s really grown and matured into her position, and makes us really good.”
Senior Megan Maxey led the attack with eight kills and senior Katie Stites added seven, as the undersized Lady Aces had no answer for the Lady Eagles (22-8).
And Lady Aces coach Natalie Goestenkors said she knew it was going to be a tough battle.
“St. Elmo is a really good team,” she said, “but we don’t have a reason to play the way we did.
“I didn’t expect us to kill them, but I expected us to play with them for a little bit.”
St. Elmo wasted no time getting its attack started, with Maxey killing off the first point of the game, and the Lady Eagles securing 10 more kills in the set.
In the second set, St. Elmo had 16 more kills.
Defensively, St. Elmo had five blocks and allowed the Lady Aces just two kills – one each for Haley Hinch and Skylar Lutz.
