Man faces multiple charges after high-speed chase

A Brownstown man is facing numerous charges after a high-speed chase on Thursday night that ended in a wreck that injured the driver and his passenger.
The Illinois State Police reported on Friday that the wreck occurred at about 11:30 p.m. about four miles north of St. Elmo, at county roads 2450 North and 1875 East.
The state police said that Zachariah Garrison, 20, was driving west on 2450 North when a St. Elmo police officer attempted to make a traffic stop.
According the ISP, Garrison “fled at a high rate of speed” and failed to negotiate a curve at 1875 East, with his vehicle leaving the roadway to the right.
The state police said Garrison’s vehicle overturned and came to rest on its wheels, spinning 180 degrees, and that Garrison began driving east on 2450 North.
The ISP said that Garrison rammed the front of a St. Elmo Police squad car, then continued east before his car skidded off the roadway and struck a ditch.
Garrison and a passenger in his vehicle, Andrew Wills, 21, of Beecher City, were both transported to St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital in Effingham.
The state police cited Garrison for driving under the influence, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, illegal transportation of alcohol and illegal consumption of alcohol.
The ISP said that pending charges filed by the St. Elmo Police include aggravated assault, criminal damage to state-supported property and aggravated fleeing or eluding, as well as other traffic charges.
