The birthplace of Abraham Lincoln’s political career will again celebrate Lincoln’s Birthday with two weekend events.
The annual celebration of Lincoln’s Birthday in Vandalia kicks off on Saturday evening with the return of the Lincoln Victory Ball.
The ball at the Vandalia Moose Lodge gets under way at 7 p.m. Those dressed in period attire will get in free, and others who wish to enjoy the event will be charged $5.
The ball includes live music by Salt Creek Band, with a caller on hand to lead participants through period dances. The evening also includes door prizes, and a patriotic T-shirt quilt donated by Too Cool T-Shirt will be raffled off to benefit Wounded Warriors projects.
Refreshments at the ball will include those of the 1860s, including pies and cobblers.
For more information about the Victory Ball, contact Connie Bolyard at 283-4206 or 267-2232.
The weekend celebration continues on Sunday afternoon with the annual Lincoln’s Birthday program at the Vandalia Statehouse.
The 2 p.m. event will include Lincoln’s Farewell Address to Springfield, delivered by Joe Woodard, a younger Lincoln presenter who has visited several Grande Levées at the Vandalia Statehouse.
Woodard will deliver the address in the House of Representatives chambers, but live video and audio fees will be on the first floor of the Statehouse.
The Sunday program is sponsored by the Vandalia Historical Society, Friends of the Vandalia Statehouse and Illinois Historic Preservation Agency.
