Lincoln events are everywhere

If you are a history buff, this coming weekend is tailor-made for you. Everywhere you look in Vandalia, something historic or Lincoln-connected is being celebrated.
First, the third anniversary of the National Road Interpretive Center will be observed from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, with a special program at 4 p.m. If you haven't been to the center, take a few minutes and see all the information and artifacts that are available about the famous road that terminated in Vandalia.
Second, the second-annual Lincoln Victory Ball will be held Saturday evening at the Vandalia Moose Lodge. It promises to be an event that transports you back to the Civil War-era, with music and dancing from that period. If you dress in clothing typical of that time, you can get in free – otherwise it's $5.
And third, the annual Lincoln's Birthday program will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. in the Vandalia Statehouse. Historian Kevin Kaegy of Greenville will present a program entitled "Lincoln's Rebel In-Laws."
And don't forget the Fayette County Museum. During February, the museum is featuring special exhibits titled "All About Lincoln." Special cases will display many Lincoln items, pictures, documents and books.
Regular museum hours are Monday through Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., but this Sunday – in honor of Lincoln's birthday – it will be open from 1-4 p.m.
Take advantage of the many local activities right here in our own back yard this weekend. Learn about our history and brush up on your Lincoln knowledge.
