Library’s summer reading program under way

Evans Public Library and McDonald’s in Vandalia are inviting local youth to sign up for this year’s summer reading program, “It’s Showtime at Your Library.”
The program is open to children age 3 through newly graduated high school seniors.
“It’s Showtime at Your Library” offers three reading programs – elementary, junior high and high school. Students will be placed in each program by the grade they will be entering this fall, and are asked to read books at their reading level.
Prizes will be awarded for each hour read this summer, and there will be a special program at 10 a.m. on July 1 that will feature Wild Times Exotic Animals, followed by pizza.
An awards party will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on Aug. 9.
Registration is now under way and runs until school resumes in August. Children may sign up any time throughout the summer.
