Leiken wins SIGA player’s title
Rising Vandalia senior RaeChelle Leiken won the player's championship and the points championship on the Southern Illinois Golf Association's Jr. Tour.
With a 72, Leiken won the SIGA JGT Vogler Ford-Linoln-Mazda Player's Championship by seven strokes in the 16-18-year-old girls division at Franklin County Country Club on Monday.
It was Leiken's 10th victory of the summer in 12 events, giving her a wide margin in the points championship, which she won, 160.25-139.
Last Friday, she was victorious in the Benton Jr. Cup, shooting a 76 to win by six strokes.
Also at the player's championship, rising Vandalia senior Blake Swofford finished third in the 16-18-year-old boys division, shooting a 75.
The winner had a 72.
Both Leiken and Swofford are expected to contend for a spot in the Illinois High School Association state golf championships this fall.
Last season, both qualified for state, with Swofford placing 12th, and Leiken placing in a tie for 29th.
