Vandalia senior RaeChelle Leiken is tied for ninth after the first day of the Class 1A girls state golf golf tournament in Decatur, also shooting the only two eagles in the tournament.
She eagled holes 4 and 6 at Red Tail Run Golf Course, which are both par four.
Leiken trails by six strokes after day one. She is in the last group to tee off on Saturday, beginning at about 10:27 a.m. on hole 1.
Vandalia senior Blake Swofford is tied for 17th after the first day of the Class 1A boys state golf tournament in Bloomington.
Swofford shot a 78 (+6) and only birdied one hole at Prairie Vista Golf Course. In the past, he has been known to have big turnarounds in two-day tournaments.
He trails the leader by eight strokes.
Swofford will tee off at about 10:18 a.m. on hole 14. He is group A on that hole, and is in the third-to-last group to tee off.
