Leathernecks hold raffles

-A A +A

The South Central Illinois Chapter of Leathernecks recently held two raffles. Shane Miller of Vandalia won a Taurus Judge pistol in the Dec. 5 raffle, and Mark Tyra of New Baden won a D.P.M.S. Panther Arms AR-15 in the Dec. 13 raffle. Above, Miller (second from right) receives his prize from Leathernecks (left to right) Joe Loera, John Swain, David Downs and Richard Rees. The proceeds from the raffle were used to meet the basic clothing needs of 33 veterans, with some funds being used to purchase outfits and toys for Christmas for four siblings living in foster care in the Hoyleton Children's Home. The Leathernecks Motorcycle Club consists of active duty Marines, those with prior service, reserve Marines and Navy FMF corpsmen with honorable discharges. They escort fallen and wounded soldiers when they arrive home from overseas. They also hold flag lines for deceased veterans during funerals as a final show of respect for their service to this country.
