STAUNTON – It was a big day for the Vandalia girls track team at last Friday's Staunton Sectional.
Two individuals combined to qualify in five events and one relay team placed in the top two to earn a place at this Thursday's Illinois High School Association state track meet on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
Freshman Emma Meyer qualified in the 100- and 200-meter dashes, pole vault and was part of the 4X100-meter relay, which includes freshman Anna Miller, freshman Madison Klanke and sophomore Jalea Paslay.
Paslay earned her place at state in the 400-meter dash and 800-meter run.
Also qualifying from the area were Brownstown/St. Elmo senior Molly Hill (discus), who becomes a four-time qualifer, and Patoka sophomore Taylor Issak (300-meter hurdles), who becomes a two-time qualifer in the race.
The state preliminaries begin on Thursday at 10:30 a.m., with running events slated to begin at 11 a.m. at O'Brien Stadium.
