The Vandalia High School girls basketball team will open its season next Tuesday at South Central, with a varsity-only contest beginning at 6:15 p.m.

For the Lady Vandals, the game will serve as the first test in a season during which the goal is to win at least 20 games.

In last season’s game, Vandalia won, 67-33, with Amber Bruno scoring 12 points and Haley Wollerman and Hannah Edwards each scoring 11. Then-senior Amy Walton also added 11 for the Lady Vandals.

South Central is a short-handed team, with only 10 players on its roster, but the Lady Cougars will come into the matchup with more game experience, having already played twice.

On Monday, South Central lost to Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 60-11, with senior Alexis Phillips leading the team in scoring. On Thursday, the Lady Cougars will host North Clay.
