The Vandalia girls basketball team will get a chance to defend its Sandoval Tournament title Saturday night thanks to a 40-26 semifinal victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City on Thursday.
Defense and rebounding keyed the Lady Vandals' latest victory, as they held a 28-16 advantage on the boards and forced the Lady Hornets into 26 turnovers.
Laura Hobbie led the way in the first half, scoring all 10 of her points, as VCHS enjoyed a 19-10 lead at intermission.
Amanda Walton and Cassie Warner helped the Lady Vandals (18-1) pull away in the third quarter, scoring six points apiece in the frame.
Walton had a team-best 12 points for Vandalia, while Warner had 10 points, 11 rebounds and two steals. Hobbie also had a double-double, pulling down 10 rebounds, in addition to grabbing two steals.
Cowden-Herrick shot just 27 percent from the floor (9 of 33).
