South Central will be the only team from the area to play for a regional championship in volleyball, after holding off a hard-charging Patoka team on Tuesday.

The No. 2 Lady Cougars came away with a 25-23, 30-28 victory in Tuesday’s Class 1A regional semifinal at South Central High School, and will battle No. 1 seed North Clay in Thursday’s championship match.

That will be a rematch of a game played on Sept. 26. North Clay was a 25-19, 10-25, 25-19 winner that night.

For South Central, seniors Lincoln Brasel and Karrigan Smith combined for 17 kills in a game that evened the team’s record at 16-16. Just six days prior, South Central had beaten Patoka, 25-11, 25-11.

In the other semifinal game, North Clay defeated Ramsey, 25-12, 25-12. In the first round, Ramsey defeated Mulberry Grove, 25-18, 25-21.
