Lady Cougars break 44-game losing streak

The Lady Cougars broke a 44-game losing streak that dated back to Feb. 2, 2012, on Tuesday, beating Webber, 50-45.

South Central exploded for 20 points in the fourth quarter to help overcome its eight-point halftime deficit.

Freshman Abby Hahn led the team with 15 points and freshman Autumn McCoy set her career-high, with 11.

The Lady Cougars (1-18) hadn’t won since beating Wayne City, 47-43, in 2012. Jenna Rose and Bailey Ritter are the only players on the team to have played in both games.

South Central was winless last season, but almost broke the losing streak last Wednesday at Webber in a 42-38 loss.

Free-throw shooting made the difference for South Central on Tuesday.

The Lady Cougars were 20-of-36 from the line for their best single-game percentage of the season. In the first matchup with Webber, South Central was 9-of-20.

Of Tuesday's makes, 12 were made during the decisive final period, with Hahn making seven.
McCoy also added seven points in the final eight minutes, scoring on three field goals and a free throw.

Other leading scorers in the game were freshman Alannah Sigrist (nine) and Sydney Wilkins (eight).
