Kyle Hawkins to return to town

Kyle Hawkins, a 2010 graduate of Vandalia Community High School, will be playing in a doubleheader at VCHS with his college club baseball team on Oct. 7.

The Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville club team will battle McKendree University in an exhibition doubleheader at the high school at 4 p.m. that day.

Hawkins will start one of the two games for SIUE.

Last spring, Hawkins was 10-1 for SIUE, with an earned-run average below 2.00, helping SIUE to a 14-2 record.

The team missed the club World Series by one game.

The game is being sponsored by the Vandalia Field of Dreams committee.
