Career and Technical Education students across the state came together on Thursday, April 26, for the opening ceremony of the eighth anniversary of Illinois SkillsUSA in Springfield.
On Friday morning, April 27, competitions began and by the end of the day, students experienced a day they will never forget. On Saturday, the ceremonies ended with closing ceremonies and awards.
Kaskaskia College was represented in Springfield with 24 students and eight advisers. The KC students brought home nine gold medals, seven silver medals and one bronze medal, and four students were recognized as the top six in the state.
In addition, Kaskaskia College received an Illinois SkillsUSA third-place membership award.
Students attending from Kaskaskia included: Lacey Klekamp, Vandalia, cosmetology model, third place (bronze).
Students earning first place in state competition earned a position to compete nationally in June at the SkillsUSA National Competition in Kansas City, Mo.
The Illinois Association of SkillsUSA, is a state association affiliated with National SkillsUSA, an organization serving high school, college and professional members who are enrolled in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations.
The Illinois association was one of the founding states of the national organization in 1965. Illinois SkillsUSA has approximately 3,500 members in more than 125 chapters throughout the state.
