Kids' cardboard show, races added to car show at lake

-A A +A

The fifth annual car show at Vandalia Lake this weekend will include races, but cars and trucks in the show will not be used in those races.
Instead, the races will have children competing against each other in cardboard cars that they have created.
The Vandalia Lions Club is again sponsoring the show, which will be held on Saturday in the lake marina campgrounds.
There is no admission fee for the public. The entry fee is $20 for those participants who wish to have their vehicles included in the judging; the fee is $15 for those vehicles entered only for display.
Registration for participants runs from 8 a.m.-noon, and judging in 36 classes begins at 12:30 p.m., with awards to be presented at 4 p.m. Eight special awards – four for custom vehicles and four for stock vehicles – will also be presented.
The show also features attendance prizes every hour from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., as well as a 50/50 drawing at 4 p.m.
New to the show this year is a show and race for youth’s cardboard creations.
The schedule for that portion of the show is:
• Ages 4-6 – Show at 10 a.m., race at 11 a.m.
• Ages 7-9 – Show at noon, race at 1 p.m.
• Ages 10-12 – Show at 2 p.m., race at 3 p.m.
