Though the battle probably is not over, the people of the United States were the winners when last Wednesday the U.S. Postal Service Board of Governors announced that six-day mail delivery will continue. At least for the time being.
The decision came after months of rumors that the postal service had targeted Saturday delivery as a way to cut costs. The proposal had been vigorously opposed by newspapers and other business-related organizations, which feared that five-day delivery would disrupt the distribution of time-sensitive newspapers and business mailings.
