Tribute committee to raffle Cadillac

The Veterans Tribute at Kaskaskia College Committee will raffle off a 2003 Cadillac to raise funds for the tribute planned at KC.
The car is in excellent condition with low miles and was donated by Don and Sharon Berdeaux of Carlyle.
All proceeds from the raffle will go towards the Tribute Project, which is planned to honor all service men and women who have served, or are currently serving in the armed forces and have connections to the counties of Bond, Clinton, Fayette, Marion and Washington.
The committee will be selling raffle tickets for the Cadillac at various events and locations around the district through November, when the drawing will be held.
Travis Henson, co-chair of the Veterans Tribute Committee said, "We thank the Berdeaux's for their donation of this car and their continued support for the Veterans Tribute Project.
"It is through the support and dedication of people like Don and Sharon that will ensure the success of this project."
Plans are to construct the Tribute in three phases:
• Phase 1-Preparing the walls with the names and branch of service engraved.
• Phase 2-Installing a commissioned sculpture of an American Eagle with a 10-foot wing span.
• Phase 3 – Constructing an educational building for facilitating the delivery of educational materials on U.S. history and military starting with the Declaration of Independence and the Revolutionary War.
The tribute will provide students, family members and visitors a connecting link to veterans by presenting a broader spectrum, appreciation and understanding of the magnitude of what all the veterans have done in gaining and preserving our democracy and in maintaining the freedoms we have in this nation.
Further, the Eeducation facility will provide students of all grade levels and the adult public an opportunity to learn about the history of our nation and to view many documents, art exhibits and artifacts.
The tribute committee has initiated a fund raising campaign to raise the funds to make the project a reality.

Massage therapy deadline extended

The massage therapy program at Kaskaskia College has extended the deadline for application to the program to June 30.
The mission of the massage therapy program at Kaskaskia College is to produce entry-level massage therapists for the labor market ,while fostering attitudes toward life-long education and development of skills.
In the Kaskaskia College massage therapy program, students acquire both academic knowledge and the hands on technical skills required in the profession.
During the two semester program at Kaskaskia College, students learn to aid clients in injury prevention, pain relief and relaxation.
Other courses instruct the students in the fundamentals of setting up a private clinic or working in a business relationship with other professionals.
The small class size ensures individual training.
Massage therapy as a career has evolved over the past few years into a popular treatment option in today’s healthcare system.
As a career, it is well-suited for part-time workers and workers who wish to open their own businesses.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of massage therapists is expected to increase by 19 percent from 2008 to 2018, faster than the average for all occupations.
Employment will also grow as more people learn about the benefits of massage therapy.
For more information regarding the massage therapy program, contact the program director, Jane Herrmann, at 545-3220.
