Basic knitting class
The Kaskaskia College Department of Industrial and Continuing Education will offer a basic knitting class at the Vandalia Campus on Wednesdays, Jan. 27-Feb. 10, from 6-8 p.m.
The registration number for the class is LLI-7102-VA01E.
Learn how to do long tail cast on and knit, purl and bind off, plus increases and decreases. The instructor will discuss yarn texture, dye lots, types of needles and basic knitting know-how.
Projects include a simple hat with ribbed brim or garter stitch scarf/shawl. Students may bring their own supplies – US size 8 and 10 needles, and worsted weight (4) yarn – or the instructor will provide needles and yarn at a cost of $12-$15.
The cost for this class is $30, but students over 60 may register at no cost.

Computer College-Part 1
The Kaskaskia College Department of Industrial and Continuing Education will offer a Computer College-Part 1 class at the Vandalia Campus on Tuesdays, Jan. 26-March 15, 2016, from 1:30-4 p.m.
The registration number for the class is LLI-7020-VA01D.
This hands-on computer course gives novice computer users the opportunity to become seasoned intermediate computer users.
Students will learn the components and parts of a computer.  Computer terms, as well as how to create, print and save documents and personalize the desktop, will be discussed.
Students will become familiar with MS Windows, Word and Excel.  Internet and basic email accounts and functions will be presented and discussed.
The cost for the class is $131, but students over 60 may register at no cost.

Zumba Gold class
The Kaskaskia College Department of Industrial and Continuing Education will offer a Zumba Gold class through the Vandalia Campus on Tuesdays, Jan. 12-March 15, from 8-9 a.m. at the Family YMCA on Rock Island Avenue in Vandalia.
The registration number for the class is COED-8057-VA01D.
Zumba Gold targets the largest-growing segment of the population: baby boomers. It takes the Zumba formula and modifies the moves and pacing to suit the needs of the active older participant, as well as those just starting their journey to a fit and healthy lifestyle. What stays the same are all the elements the Zumba: the exhilarating, easy-to-follow moves; and the invigorating, party-like atmosphere.
Zumba Gold is the perfect fit. It’s a dance-fitness class that feels friendly, and most of all, fun.
The cost for this course is $40 for students under 60 and no cost for students over 60.

Beginning beekeeping class
The Kaskaskia College Department of Industrial and Continuing Education will offer a beginning beekeeping class at the Vandalia Campus on Friday, Jan. 22, from noon-4 p.m.
The registration number for the class is COED-8033-VA01D.
Beginning beekeeping is an introductory course designed to acquaint the students with basic beekeeping. It will provide information on how to enter this hobby and eventually develop it into a satisfying and possibly profitable endeavor.
Students will be given a brief history and overview of the subject, along with the equipment and management practices necessary to be successful.
Students over 60 may register at no cost, and the cost for students under 60 is $20.

Registration Day this Saturday
Kaskaskia College will host a special spring registration day at the main campus and all education centers this Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Departments providing services for the day will include advisement, admissions and registration, placement testing, financial aid, library and bookstore.
Advising will be available on a walk-in basis that day. The cashier’s office will be open to accept payments or assist in setting up payment plans through NelNet.
New students or returning students who have sat out for at least a year are encouraged to apply prior to Saturday by completing the Student Admissions Form online at www.kaskaskia.edu and choosing the “Apply Now” link.
Students should also take their high school transcripts, college transcripts and ACT scores. Students who have not previously taken the ACT should plan to test for math and English class placement by contacting the KC Success Center at 545-3160 for more information.  
In order to register on this date, students need to be aware that their Free Application for Student Aid needs to be complete or payment of 40 percent of their spring tuition will be required to register for classes on Saturday.
Assistance with setting up payment plans with NelNet will be available through the cashier’s office. Financial aid staff will also be available to help in completing the FAFSA process or students can complete it at home at fafsa.ed.gov. Once a FAFSA is finalized, students will then be reimbursed at a later date, depending on their eligibility for aid.
Those students seeking assistance with the 2015-16 FAFSA application should plan to take their 2014 U.S. tax forms, as well as 2014 tax forms for parents or spouses as appropriate. Records for untaxed income, such as Social Security, welfare, AFDC, veteran’s benefits or child support received or paid, should also be provided.
