Kaskaskia College

Financial aid workshop
Kaskaskia College Financial Aid will be hosting half-day sessions for professional development opportunities designed to help high school counselors, community organization members, financial aid administrators and other professionals involved in assisting Illinois students and their families along the path to college.
The workshop is designed to help build an understanding of financial aid concepts, whether the student is new to financial aid or a seasoned professional seeking a refresher.
Workshops will be held next Tuesday in the college’s Lifelong Learning Building, in rooms LC 114-115. Registration for the morning session begins at 8 a.m.
Lenore Smith, community affairs specialist for the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, will be the presenter, and there is no cost to attend. Participants will earn Continuing Professional Development Units for participating.
At the conclusion of FAFSA Made Easier, participants will break for lunch. Participants are welcome to attend both workshops or a single workshop. The training will conclude by 4 p.m.
 Sessions include:
FAFSA Made Easier – Starts promptly at 8:30 a.m. Developed as an intensive line-by-line review of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) 2010-11.
Participants will gain insight about current intricacies of the FAFSA and anticipated changes. Special emphasis is placed on dependency questions, financial aid worksheets, issues of student eligibility and how to avoid common mistakes.
FAFSA Expert – Participants will build on information presented in "FAFSA Made Easier."
Complex tax, asset, eligibility and need analysis questions are discussed. Using case studies that reflect real life situations, participants will complete guided calculations of the Federal Need Analysis Methodology and learn how the information reported on the FAFSA impacts a student’s Expected Family Contribution (EFC).
For more information or to register, call Lisa Collier, director of financial aid for Kaskaskia College, at 545-3081.
