Financial aid workshop
The Kaskaskia College Financial Aid Office will host a FAFSA workshop on Friday, April 13, from 1-3 p.m., in room L-102 on the KC main campus.
The purpose of this event is to help college-bound students who need to complete and submit the 2012-13 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
Completing the FAFSA accurately and on time is the first and most-important step to obtaining state and federal financial aid.
By completing the FAFSA, students will be able to meet deadlines at the colleges they are considering. FAFSA information is critical for colleges to package financial aid awards for students.
Students and parents can receive free, individual assistance completing the FAFSA in room L-102 on the KC main campus. Financial aid professionals will be on hand to review the FAFSA form and to answer any questions you may have.
Students are asked to provide the following financial information: driver’s license; Social Security number(s); alien ID card (if a non-U.S. citizen); 2011 federal tax return(s); 2011 W-2 forms; needy families or welfare benefits; current bank statements; current business and investment mortgage information; business and farm records; stock, bond and other investment records; e-mail address, completed 2011-12 FAFSA or pre-application worksheet (optional); and PIN number(s), if known.

Scrapbooking class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a beginning scrapbooking class at the Vandalia Center on Saturday, April 14, from 9 a.m.-noon.
The registration number is COED 5401 VA01W.
Students will bring pictures and keepsakes to life with the scrapbooking techniques taught in this class. Students will learn creative ideas, cutting methods, cropping and embellishment to create a colorful memory book.  Students should take enough photographs and other items to build two scrapbook pages.
The cost for this course is $25; students over 60 may register for supply fee of $10.

Charcoal drawing class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a charcoal drawing class at the Vandalia Center on Thursdays, April 19, April 26 and May 3, from 6-8 p.m.

Students will learn how to use charcoals for rendering subjects such as still lifes and landscapes; and focus on color, harmony and composition. A list of supplies will be furnished to students.
The cost for students under 60 is $30; students over 60 may register at no cost.

Intro to the Internet class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education an introduction to the Internet class at the Vandalia Center on Saturdays, April 14 and 21, from 8:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

This basic class is designed to familiarize one with how to use e-mail, establishing free e-mail accounts and how to use the Internet for learning, shopping and business.
The cost for this course is $48; students over 60 may register at no cost.

Baby sign language courses
The Vandalia Campus will offer an extensive series of sign language classes for both children and their caregivers.
These classes are designed for both hearing-impaired and non-hearing-impaired children.
The classes are offered Tuesday and Thursday mornings for both 2- and 3-year-olds. The topics include eat and drink, clothing, play, mom and dad, pets, nice words and bedtime.
This course is open to all children and caregivers.
The cost for each four-session block is $20 per caregiver.
Each child is required to have an adult caregiver.
There is no cost for children.  
• Class 13:  Friends and Feelings – Tuesday, April 10, from 9-10 a.m. for 2-year-olds and 10:05-11:05 a.m. for 3-year-olds.

New student orientation
Kaskaskia College is holding new student orientation for students who will be beginning classes during the summer 2012 semester.
The event will be on Friday, April 13, from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Campus.
The program focuses on providing participants with information about college services, making the transition into college an easy process.
All participants and students are encouraged to participate. Reservations are requested for attendance. Individuals may sign up online at www.kaskaskia.edu/NSO.

The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a cake decorating” class at the Vandalia Center on Saturday, April 14, from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

Students will learn the basics of cake decorating. They will not only learn how to make icing, but will learn the importance of icing consistency.
Students can expect to learn how to make decorative icing flowers, figure piping and lattice work. The making of novelty and specialty cakes will also be addressed.
The cost for students under 60 is $45; students over 60 may register for supply cost of $25.

The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a social networking class at the KC Main Campus and the Crisp Technology Center.  
The class will be held Thursdays, April 9 and 16, from 6-8 p.m.

Students will learn to use Facebook, Twitter and other social networking sites. This course will cover building pages security and customizing pages. Computer and internet experience is necessary.
The course fee is $20; students over 60 may register at no cost.

'Writing Your Own Memoirs' class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a “Writing your Own Memoirs” class at the Vandalia Center.

‘Computer Understanding’ class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a “Computer Understanding” class at the Vandalia Center on Saturdays, April 28 and May 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

This hands-on computer course gives novice computer users the opportunity to become a seasoned intermediate computer user. Computer terms, as well as how to create, print and save documents, manipulate a mouse and personalize the desktop will be covered.
The cost for this course is $48, but students over 60 may register at no cost.

‘Reading Link’ volunteers sought
Kaskaskia College’s “The Reading Link” is in need of volunteer tutors.
“The Reading Link” is holding formal training free of charge for volunteers who are interested in sharing their abilities to assist others in improving their skills. Volunteers assist adult learners who are 17 years of age or older, in reading, writing, basic math and learning basic English skills.
Anyone who has a genuine concern for others, an ability to learn and an ability to read well may volunteer.
Volunteers tutor learners for a minimum of two hours per week.
After volunteers finish the training, tutors meet on a regular basis with an individual from their own community in a public place, such as a church, school, public library or other area that is convenient to the tutor and to the learner.
Free volunteer tutor training dates include: Monday, April 23, at the KC Workforce Center in Centralia; Tuesday, April 24, at the Greenville Education Center; Wednesday, April 25, at the KC Vandalia Campus; Thursday, April 26, at the Salem Education Center; Thursday, May 3, at the Trenton Education Center; Tuesday, May 8, at the KC Main Campus; and Thursday, May 10, at the Nashville Education Center.
Session II of training is scheduled for Saturday, May 12, at the KC Main Campus.

Small business workshop
The Illinois Small Business Development Center at Kaskaskia College will host a “Starting a Small Business in Illinois” workshop on April 20, from 2-4 p.m., at the Kaskaskia College Vandalia Campus, located at 2310 W. Filmore Street in Vandalia.
Topics to be covered include: how to develop a business plan as well as a marketing plan; how to get organized and maintain records; determining the form of your business organization; and legal and financial basics.
The fee for the non-credit class is $10, and pre-registration is required.  Call 618-545-3429 to register.
A minimum of six people must register. The registration deadline is one week prior to the workshop.
