Cake decorating class in Vandalia
The Kaskaskia College Continuing/Community Education Department will offer a cake decorating course at the Vandalia Campus on Saturday, from 8:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
The registration number for this class is COED 5439 VA01W.
Students will learn the basics of cake decorating, as well as how to make icing and the importance of icing consistency.
Students can expect to learn how to make decorative icing flowers, figure piping and lattice work. The making of novelty and specialty cakes will also be addressed.
The cost is $45, but students over 60 may register for supply cost of $25.

Late starting classes online
Kaskaskia College will offer late-starting fall classes online, starting in October.
These classes are designed with the student’s busy schedule in mind and are held so the student can stay on track toward meeting their educational goals.
The classes include:  Introduction to Art, Microbiology, International Business Management, Business Communications, English Composition 102, World Geography, Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, Intro to Contemporary Math, Human Health and Wellness, Air and Bloodborne Pathogens, Medical Terminology, Intro to Music in America, Music Appreciation, Core Values and Ethical Decision Making, Atmospheric Science, Life Span Growth and Development, Marriage and the Family, Sociology, and Fundamentals of Speech .

Machine quilting class at KC Vandalia Campus
The Kaskaskia College Continuing/Community Education Department will offer a machine quilting course at the Vandalia Campus on Wednesdays, October 10, 17 and 24, from 6-9 p.m.
The registration number for this class is COED 5440 VA01E.
Beginning quilting will examine all of the necessary tools for hand and machine piecing of quilt blocks. Each week, the tools and their use will be demonstrated, as well as putting the cut fabric pieces into a block.
Participants will leave with all of the information needed each week to complete a block with ideas for a final product.
A portable sewing machine is required. The cost for students is $45, but students over 60 may register free of charge. A supply list will be provided the first class meeting.

Spanish for health care workers class
The Kaskaskia College Continuing/Community Education Department will offer a Spanish for health care workers” at the Vandalia Campus.
This course will be held on Saturdays, Oct. 5 and 12, from 9 a.m.-noon. The registration number for this class is PGAD 5321 VA01W.
The two-session class will provide resources in the area of medical Spanish terminology. Participants will be given names for diseases and conditions, and shown how to access medical terms in Spanish online. The instructor will assist with phrases, parts of the body, names of diseases and procedures.
The cost for this course is $30, but students over 60 may register free of charge.

Acrylic painting class at Vandalia Campus
The Kaskaskia College Continuing/Community Education Department will offer an acrylic painting course at the Vandalia Campus on Thursdays, Oct. 17, 24 and 31, from 6-8 p.m.
The registration number for this class is COED 5442 VA02E.
This beginning painting class offers instruction, as well as guidance in creating your own masterpiece in the company of others. Students will participate in basic discussions of paint, brushes, canvas mediums and color principles.
Students will learn different techniques in using acrylic paints.  A supply list will be provided for students.
The cost is $30; however, students over 60 may register at no cost.

Reading Link volunteers needed
Kaskaskia College’s “The Reading Link” is in need of volunteer tutors.
“The Reading Link” is holding formal training free of charge for volunteers who are interested in sharing their abilities to assist others in improving their skills. Volunteers assist adult learners who are 17 years of age or older, in reading, writing, basic math and learning basic English skills.
Anyone can volunteer who has a genuine concern for others, an ability to learn and an ability to read well. Tutoring can be part of a challenging and rewarding experience. Volunteers tutor learners for a minimum of two hours per week.
After volunteers finish the training, tutors meet on a regular basis with an individual from their own community in a public place such as a church, school, public library or other area that is convenient to the tutor and to the learner.
Free volunteer tutor training dates include Friday, Oct. 18, at the Vandalia Campus, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
Session II will be held Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Kaskaskia College Main Campus, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., with lunch being provided.

Late-starting fall classes
Kaskaskia College will offer late-starting fall classes on the main campus and at local education centers.
Classes slated for late start include:  Managerial Accounting, Introduction to Word Processing, Cisco Routers and Routing Basics, Introduction to College Composition, Payroll and Business Taxes, Food Service Sanitation Certification, Food Service Sanitation Refresher, Core Values and Ethical Decision Making, Court Procedure and Evidence, Introduction to Criminology, Medical Terminology, Microsoft Excel Beginner, MS Powerpoint Beginner, Introduction to Word Processing, English Composition, Data Acquisition and Management, Keyboarding IA and Keyboarding II, and Critical Reading and Study Skills.
