Basic conversational Spanish class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a basic conversational Spanish class at the Vandalia Campus on Saturdays, March 22 and 29, from 9 a.m.-noon.
The registration number for the class is COED-6001-VA01W.
This course is designed for students who would like to understand the basics of the Spanish language to be able to communicate with their co-workers or to travel to a Spanish speaking country.
The cost is $30, but students over 60 may register at no cost.

Queen bees class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a queen bees class at the Vandalia Campus this Saturday, from 8 a.m.-noon.
The registration number for the class is COED-8039-VA01W.
Third in the series is queen bee raising, which will teach students how to properly raise and care for queen bees in their hives. Healthy queens are necessary to grow the population and maintain a productive and functioning hive.
The course fee is $20, but students over 60 may register at no cost.

KC to honor 1964 grads

Kaskaskia College is currently seeking students from the graduating class of 1964.
The college is planning a special recognition at this year’s graduation ceremony scheduled for Friday, May 16, that will include the graduates from 50 years ago.
If you are a 1964 graduate of Kaskaskia College or know of someone who graduated from that class, contact Cheryl Boehne, director of admissions and registration, at 545-3184 or e-mail cboehne@kaskaskia.edu by April 1.

Graduation application deadline
The Kaskaskia College Admissions Office has set April 1 is the deadline for all 2014 graduates to apply for the May 2014 commencement ceremonies.
This year’s graduation ceremony will be held at the main campus on Friday evening, May 16, at 7:30 p.m.
Jenna Lammers, assistant manager of Records and Registration, said, that representatives from Oak Hall will be on the main campus March 31, April 1, 2 and 3 for graduates to order cap and gowns, and that there is no charge to the student for participating in commencement or for the cap and gown.
Students must have completed and submitted a graduation application to be able to order from Oak Hall.
Graduation applications are available on the web, at the Welcome Center on the main campus or at any of the education centers.

KC to offer concealed carry courses
Kaskaskia College has partnered with several Illinois State Police certified concealed carry instructors to offer the concealed carry permit courses at a variety of locations throughout the Kaskaskia College district.
All classes will include classroom and range time required by the state of Illinois. Upon successful completion, students will have the required training to apply directly to the state for a concealed carry permit. Application fees are paid directly to the state by the applicant.
Several classes will be offered in several locations over the next year, including Trenton, Vandalia and Centralia.
Those interested in attending these classes should notify the instructor from the particular area they are assigned. In Vandalia, contact Mike Black, an ISP-approved concealed carry instructor, at 427-3847.

‘Keep Bees Healthy’ class

The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a “Keep Healthy Bees” class at the Vandalia Campus on Saturday, April 5, from 8 a.m.-noon.
The registration number for the class is COED-8040-VA01W.
Contemporary issues facing beekeepers such as diseases, colony collapse disorder and the role of bees as pollinators will also be covered.
The cost is $20, but students over the age of 60 may register free of charge.

Basic knitting class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a basic knitting class at the Vandalia Campus on Friday mornings, April 4 and 11, from 10 a.m.-noon.
The registration number for the class is LLI-7102-VA01D.
Students will learn the basics of knitting. The instructor will discuss yarn textures, die lots and basic knitting know-how. Students will learn basic stitches such as knit, purl, increase, decrease, yarn-on and yarn-off. Many patterns will be shared and discussed.
Students will be provided with a supply list prior to the start of class.
The cost is $20, but students over 60 may register at no cost.

Intermediate water coloring class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer an intermediate water coloring class at the Vandalia Campus on Thursdays, March 27-April 10, from 6-8 pm.
The registration number for the class is COED-6009-VA02E.
This class requires no prior painting or drawing experience. Students will learn simple drawing and painting techniques, such as shading and blending, with easy to use water colors. Water colors offer an excellent transition from drawing to painting in a short amount of time.
The cost is $30, but students over 60 may register at no cost.
Students will be given a supply list prior to the start of this class.
