Saturday is Registration Day
Kaskaskia College will be hosting a special spring 2015 Registration Day at the main campus and all education centers from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday.
Departments providing services for the day will include advisement, admissions and registration, placement testing, financial aid, library and bookstore.
Advising will be available on a walk-in basis that day. The cashier’s office will be open to accept payments or set up payment plans.
New students or returning students who have stopped out for at least a year are encouraged to apply prior to Jan. 10 by completing the student admissions form online at www.kaskaskia.edu and choose the “Apply Now” link.
Students should also take their high school transcripts, college transcripts and ACT scores. Students who have not previously taken the ACT should plan to test for math and English class placement by contacting the KC Success Center at 545-3160 for more information.
Students need to be aware that payment of 35 percent of their spring tuition is required to register for classes on Jan. 10. Assistance with payment plans will be available through the cashier’s office.
While it is recommended that Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) applications be completed prior to this event, assistance in completing the application will also be available on that day. Those students seeking assistance with the FAFSA application should plan to provide their 2013 U.S. tax forms, as well as 2013 tax forms for parents or spouses, as appropriate. Records for untaxed income such as Social Security, welfare, AFDC, veteran’s benefits, or child support received or paid should also be provided.

Advanced water coloring class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer an advance water coloring class at the Vandalia Campus on Thursdays, Jan. 22-Feb. 5, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.
The registration number for the class is COED-6009-VA01E.
Students will go beyond the basics of watercolor painting. They will learn more-advanced techniques to become an intermediate painter. Students will be given a supply list prior to the first class meeting.
The cost for this course is $30, but students over 60 may register at no cost.

Burlap wreath class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a “Making a Burlap Wreath” class at the Vandalia Campus on Saturday, Jan. 17, from 9-11 a.m.
The registration number for the class is COED-8105-VA01W.
Students will learn how to make their own burlap wreath for the next upcoming holiday. Students will be provided a supply list prior to the start of class.
The cost for this class is $10, but students over 60 may register at no cost.  

Beginning beekeeping class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a beginning beekeeping” class at the Vandalia Campus this Saturday, from 8 a.m.-noon.
The registration number for the class is COED-8033-VA01W.
Beginning beekeeping is an introductory course designed to acquaint the students with basic beekeeping. It will provide information on how to enter this hobby and eventually develop it into a satisfying and possibly profitable endeavor.
Students will be given a brief history and overview of the subject, along with the equipment and management practices necessary to be successful.
The cost for this class is $20, but students over 60 may register at no cost.

Sewing basics class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a sewing basics class at the Vandalia Campus on Saturdays, Jan. 24, Feb. 14, March 28, April 18 and May 9.
The class will meet from 9-11 a.m. The registration number for the class is COED-5041-VA01W.
This class is designed to do basic sewing. Each class we will be using a sweater to make different items, such as mittens, hat, pillow, bag and stuffed animals.
Students are required to take a portable sewing machine to class. A supply list will be provided to the students prior to class.
The cost for this class is $50, but students over 60 may register at no cost.     
 
Intro to Excel class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer an “Intro to Excel” class at the Vandalia Campus on Saturday, Jan. 24, from 8 a.m.-noon.
The registration number for the class is LLI-7011-VA01W.
Students will learn how to use the Microsoft EXCEL program. Students will have the opportunity to learn many features, such as creating a spreadsheet as a simple budgeting tool, formulas, saving and formatting spreadsheets, sorting, previewing, printing and altering page setup.
The fee is $20, but students over 60 may register at no cost.  

Basic knitting class
The Kaskaskia College Office of Continuing/Community Education will offer a basic knitting class at the Vandalia Campus from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesdays, Jan. 20-Feb. 3.
The registration number for the class is LLI-7102-VA01E.
In this basic knitting class, students will learn how to do long tail cast on and knit, purl and bind off, plus increases and decreases. The instructor will discuss yarn texture, dye lots, types of needles, and basic knitting know-how.
Projects for this class include a simple hat with ribbed brim or a garter stitch scarf/shawl.
Students may bring their own supplies – US size 8 and 10 needles and worsted weight (4) yarn — or the instructor will provide needles and yarn at a cost of $12-15.
The cost for the class is 30, but students over 60 may register at no cost.
