Judge Schwarm receives Lifetime Achievement Award

S. Gene Schwarm, resident circuit judge for Fayette County and chief judge of the Fourth Judicial Circuit, received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Illinois Judges Association (IJA) at its Midyear Meeting last Friday at a noon luncheon at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel & Towers.
Schwarm received the award in recognition of his many years of devotion to promoting a strong and independent judiciary and in appreciation for his time and valuable contributions to the Illinois judiciary.
Schwarm has devoted the majority of his volunteer service to the Illinois judiciary. Since September 2006, he has served as chairman of the Conference of Chief Circuit Judges, an organization of 23 Illinois chief judges that oversees issues related to the administration of the Illinois courts.
He is chair of the executive committee of Illinois Court Reporting Services and Co-chair of the Illinois Family Violence Coordinating Council. As chair of the Fourth Judicial Circuit’s Family Violence Coordinating Council, he was recognized for his work by receiving the Justice Benjamin K. Miller Recognition Award.
Active in juvenile justice issues while on the bench, he serves on the Child Welfare – Court Improvement Program’s Judicial Advisory Committee.
Throughout the years, he has been an instructor on various topics at the Judicial Education Conference and judicial trainings for Illinois judges.
He is also a member of the Illinois Supreme Court’s Legislative Committee.
Schwarm, who was previously in private practice in Vandalia, resides with his wife, Ann, on the family farm on which he was reared in rural Fayette County. They have two adult sons.
