Jr. Lady Vandals state-bound after sectional win

HILLSBORO – Vandalia's eighth-grade volleyball team is the first one in school historyl to qualify for the state tournament after knocking off Auburn in an exciting three-set sectional match on Monday.

The Jr. Lady Vandals scrapped their way to a 26-24, 18-25, 25-23 victory in the Class 8-3A sectional game at Hillsboro, advancing to the Saturday's Illinois Elementary School Association state tournament.

Vandalia (12-7) will meet Beecher (21-4) at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday at Tolono Junior High School for a first round matchup. The winner advances to the semifinals at 5:15 p.m. that evening, and the loser is eliminated.

The Jr. Lady Vandals overcame several deficits during the match, hanging on while facing a 20-24 score in the first set and relaxing after Auburn got back within a point at 24-23 at the end of the third set.
