On Monday, May 7, the fifth annual Telephone Operators, Installation and Repairmen Reunion was held in the Lincoln Room at Ponderosa Steakhouse in Vandalia.
The 33 in attendance included 21 operators, six repairmen and six spouses.
Delila Beckman welcomed everyone, and Loretta Nickels gave the meal prayer.
After the meal, everyone was asked to introduce themselves and their guests, and tell when and where they had worked for Illinois Bell.
The sharing of stories was a popular part of the reunion.
There was a moment of silence for several employees who had died since the last reunion – Velma Ervin, Joyce Horner, Betty Perry, Betty Davis, Grace Blunt and Berta Curry.
Next year’s reunion will be held on the first Monday in May at the same location.
Those in attendance from Vandalia were Ben and Billyanna Forbis, Donna Chrisman, Bessie Jones, Connie Eakin, Annetta VanValey, Dean and Elloise Black, Joanne Pontious, Bettye Kelly, George and Amy Meseke, Una Funk, Bonnie Donnals, Pat Jackson, Dale and Jean Freeman and Jean Reece.
Others present were: Edna Clymer of Camby, Ind.; Delila Beckman of Coffeen; Loretta Nickels and Gloria Ledbetter of Brownstown; Wally and Joyce Bertram, and Judy Walker of Shobonier; Ruby Funk, Ruth Jordan, and Kenneth and Esther Henry of Greenville; Willie and Arlene Smith of Woodlawn; and William and Norma Blunt from Sandoval.
