IHSA changes don’t affect Fayette County schools

The Illinois High School Association made two sweeping changes to its by-laws last Thursday, but neither of them affect any Fayette County high schools.

Because of a discrepancy in the number of schools in each of the four classes in recent years, the IHSA adjusted the enrollment figures for each class, but all seven area high schools’ enrollments leave them in the same classes as before.

In addition, no school is close to moving up or down a class.

The second change was made the IHSA’s enrollment multiplier, which affects only private schools and non-boundaried public schools.

In the past, those schools had to apply for a waiver to the multiplier, but now, waivers will be determined based on playoff performance for the past six years.

An automatic waiver will be granted to any team that does not accomplish any of the following in the six years before any given school year: win a state trophy, qualify for the state final tournament, win a sectional, win a regional two or more times, finish second or third in a sectional two or more times (track and field only) or win a first-round playoff game (football only).

Some area rivals – Christ Our Rock Lutheran, St. Anthony and Marquette Catholic – could be affected by the multiplier policy.
