Ian Murrell holding recital

A fundraising recital will be held on Saturday, June 13, for a Vandalia resident who has been accepted for study in Colorado this summer.

Ian Murrell, who is pursuing a degree in performance at University of Evansville, has been accepted to the Aspen Music Festival and School Opera Theatre.
Murrell will be giving a free recital at 4 p.m. on June 13 at First Baptist Church in Vandalia. Donations will be accepted at the recital.
While in Colorado, he will be taking private voice lessons from Sanford Sylvan, a singer who is on staff at the Juilliard School in Manhattan.
He will also be training with opera singers, in order to become a better musician and more-effective stage actor.
Murrell will also be exposed to professionals in the field, as well as introduce him to peers who are also seeking careers in music.
The total cost of the summer program is $9,000, and that covers tuition, room and board, most meals, vocal instruction, access to practice areas and opportunities to sing with a professional orchestra.
Thus far, Murrell has raised about $6,000 toward his goal.
In return for donations, Murrell will send to donors photos and journal entries of his experiences in Aspen.
Those interested in helping to support Murrell may contact him at 267-8679 or send donations to 518 W. Randolph St., Vandalia, Ill. 62471.
