Hillsboro tops Lady Vandals

Sammi Matoush scored 35 points to lead Hillsboro to a 67-38 win over the Lady Vandals last Thursday at Vandalia.

Matousch scored eight points in the first quarter, 14 in the second, 16 in the third and eight in the fourth, with her total including five three-pointers, eight two-point field goals and four of six shooting from the free-throw line.
The Lady Vandals held an early 9-8 lead on a field goal by Anna Miller, but Hillsboro scored the last five points of the quarter to lead 13-9.
In the second quarter, the Lady Hiltoppers limited the Lady Vandals to two baskets by sub Megan Kern and one by Madison Klanke to lead 27-15 at halftime.
The Lady Vandals narrowed the lead to 10 at the start of the second half, but Hillsboro pulled away from that point.
Kern hit three field goals in that quarter as the Lady Vandals put 17 points on the scoreboard, but Matoush scored 16 points in the third for Hillsboro.
Olivia Marquardt led the Lady Vandals with 12 points, and Megan Kern had 10. Other scorers: Klanke 7, Miller 4, Molly Kern 2, Makayla Ruot 2 and Lanee McNary 1.
Hillsboro also won the JV contest, 64-52.
Megan Kern scored 24 points for the Lady Vandals, and Lanee McNary was also in double figures with 11.
Other scorers: McKinney 2, Zimmerman 8, Swain 4, Laura Miller 3.

Abby Hahn scored 12 points, and Deidre Hall and Alannah Sigrist each had 11 as South Central defeated Ramsey, 42-30, on Monday at South Central.
The Lady Cougars jumped out to a 15-2 lead after one quarter, then Ramsey held a 10-8 edge in the second, making it 23-12 at the half. South Central outscored Ramsey 19-18 in the second half.
South Central – Hahn 12, Katlyn Hilmes 6, Hall 11, Sydney Wilkins 2, Sigrist 11.
Ramsey – Jasmine Butler 5, Zoe Marx 6, Connie Schackmann 5, Cecelia Ritter 2, Taylen Wesselman 12.

South Central lost to Woodlawn, 44-28, on Monday at South Central.
Hahn scored 18 points to lead the Lady Cougars, who fell to 2-7 on the season. Wilkins had seven points and Sigrist rounded out the South Central scoring with three.
