Coronary heart disease (CHD) is the No. 1 cause of death in the United States and a leading cause of serious disability.
The University of Illinois Extension office, in partnership with Kaskaskia College, will offer a two-part series, “Healthy Heart,” at Kaskaskia College’s Vandalia Campus next Monday and Wednesday, from 1-3 p.m.
This two-part series focuses on increasing participant awareness of the risk factors of CHD – hypertension, high blood pressure and cholesterol, and other warning signs.
The series focuses on heart-healthy foods, menu planning, low-sodium strategies, healthy eating away from home, omega 3/fish, dietary fiber, antioxidants, a healthy pantry, etc.
Activity levels and weight management information on keeping your heart in good condition, as well as food demonstrations, taste testing and recipes are provided at each session.
The cost is $20 for all ages.
Participants may register through the Kaskaskia College Vandalia campus by calling 283-1780.
