Hard work paying off

Vandalia wrestlers Dalton Blankenship and Kendrick Woolsey are perfect examples of the "perseverance and hard work" that coach Jason Clay talks about when he explains the success of this year's grapplers.
Just a week and a half after sustaining bruised ribs, Blankenship returned to the mat to give his team some very important points.
Woolsey, facing an opponent who had already beaten him twice this season, provided the sectional-clinching points by edging that opponent in a hotly contested overtime match.
Now, the wrestlers return to the dual team state wrestling tournament in Bloomington, making this their sixth consecutive trip.
Going into Tuesday's sectional match, Clay knew that it would be a close match. Indeed, this was a year when the Vandals' streak was in jeopardy.
But, with "perseverance and hard work," the Vandals showed that they are again a statewide force with which to be reckoned.
We wish them luck as they head to the state finals against some tough competition. They aren't considered to be among the favorites, but as they showed us on Tuesday night, don't ever count them out.
