A week after Dan Goggin filed documents trying to get back on the ballot as a Republican candidate for state's attorney in Fayette County, Democrat incumbent Stephen Friedel filed an objection to those documents.
Friedel filed on Friday an objection to the Greenville attorney's nomination papers, arguing that Goggin could not fill a vacancy on the ballot because there wasn't a legal vacancy to be filled.
Friedel argues that in documents filed on Aug. 1, Goggin states that a a vacancy in the nomination of the Republican Party was created by (Goggin) declining nomination on or about April 15.
However, Friedel contends, Goggin did not decline the partys nomination. Instead, he argues, a Fayette County electoral board ruled that he could not appear on the ballot as a Republican candidate.
