VANDALIA - Each grade level will be represented by Vandalia at the Illinois High School Association individual state wrestling tournament, as four Vandals qualified for the event at Saturday's Vandalia Sectional.
Freshman Chaston Womack (106) and sophomore Dalton Blankenship (138) each were crowned sectional champion, while senior Zach Jackson (160) placed third and junior Tyler Dagen (145) placed fourth.
The preliminary rounds at state will begin on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Assembly Hall on the campus of the University of Illinois in Champaign.
Womack recorded a pin in 5:23 to take the sectional title and earn a No. 1 seed at the state tournament, which begins on Thursday, and Blankenship rallied in the final 10 seconds of his bout to win, 6-2.
In the first round, Womack (34-14) will take on Byron's Brady Wilsie (28-13), and Blankenship (39-8) will face Sterling Newman Central Catholic's Stephen Adamecz (29-9).
Jackson took his spot with a 9-2 victory, and Dagen lost, 9-5.
Dagen (34-14) will battle Brandon Lizer (38-5) of Dakota at state, while Jackson (41-9) will face Tyler Westlund (33-3) of Poplar Grove (North Boone).
Senior Sean Newcomb fell victim to a paif of tough breaks, losing in overtime in the championship semifinals, and falling, 2-1, in the consolation semifinals.
Sophomore Ryne Lipsey lost a consolation semifinal bout, 15-13, in nearly making his first state tournament appearance. Sophomore Jake Stewart and junior Rodney Tedrick also participated in the sectional tournament.
