Food, shelter meeting set

Fayette County has been chosen to receive funding to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.
The selection was made by the national board that is chaired by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and consists of representatives from the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, United Jewish Communities and United Way of America.
The local board is charged to distribute funds appropriated by Congress to help expand the capacity of food and shelter programs in high-need areas around the county.
A local board made up of representatives from local government, Salvation Army, United Way, Catholic Charities and a former homeless person serves on the Fayette County EFSP Board.
The board is always looking for new members, for those would like to serve. The local board will determine how the funds will be spent in Fayette County.
Under the terms of the grant from the national board, local agencies chosen to receive the funds must be a private not-for-profit organization or a unit of local government. They must have an accounting system, practice non-discrimination and have demonstrated the capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs.
Qualifying agencies are encouraged to apply. Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds must contact Janet Wise for an application for an application. Applications must be submitted by Sept. 26 at 9 a.m.
Fayette County has distributed EFSP funds previously, with C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity Corporation participating. C.E.F.S. was responsible for providing 4,155 meals and 510 nights of lodging.
The re-organizational meeting for this year will be held at the C.E.F.S. Fayette County Outreach office in Vandalia on September 27 at 1:30 p.m. For additional information contact Wise at 283-2631, prior to the time of the meeting.
