More than 165 households, representing 193 children under 18 years of age and 404 adults, received food materials last Thursday during the Central Illinois Mobile Food Pantry distribution in St. Elmo.
To date, more than 1,000 adults and 600 children have been helped through the food bank this year.
The distribution was assisted by the work of more than 60 volunteers. Those volunteers included representatives of Fayette County Farm Bureau Foundation, Soroptimist of Vandalia, St. Elmo FFA, St. Elmo Lions Club, Parkview Free Methodist Church, Northside Christian Church and Pinnacle Foods.
Local funding has been secured to allow for a fourth distribution this year.
Donations are still needed for that distribution, however. Those wishing to make a tax-deductible donation to the food pantry may send donations to the Fayette County Farm Bureau Foundation, P.O. Box 336, Vandalia, Ill. 62471, or the Central Illinois Food Bank, P.O. Box 8228, Springfield, Ill. 62791. Donors are asked to put "Fayette County" in the memo field of their donation checks so that the money is credited to the local effort.
Food selection included baking staples, potatoes, fruit drinks, fruit, pancake syrup, barbecue sauce, pancake mix, breakfast bars, fruit pies, cheese dips, condiments and dips.
The distribution took place in the parking lot of Pinnacle Foods in St. Elmo.
